Volan fibreglass cloth

Seabase sells several weights and sizes of Volan fibreglass cloth in 30″ (76 cm) widths.  Volan is a treatment applied to e-glass, not a fibreglass cloth, and was used on older fibreglass cloths primarily for boat use. Its greenish tint was probably from the refraction of the toxic Chrome salts used in the production of the finish. Now used to reproduce retro finishes on surfboards, Volan is an industry standard. Its old-time finish brother, silane, is less used these days as more modern finishes are applied to fibreglass cloths after heat treatment at high temperatures that burn off impurities.
